13U Athletics (Gold 2010) Earn Silver at PWSA Grands, Qualify for Eastern Canadians
The
13U LaSalle Athletics (Gold 2010) completed one of their season-long goals,
qualifying for the Eastern Canadian Championships with a silver medal
performance at PWSA Grands in Windsor, Ontario.
The Athletics went undefeated in pool play to start the
tournament, including thrilling win against the eventual bronze medalist
Oakville Angels. The Athletics battled
back with three runs in the 7th inning against Oakville to take the
game 6-4. All told, LaSalle outscored
their pool opponents 36-7, earning the second overall seed and a bye to the
semifinals.
With a trip to Prince Edward Island for the Eastern Canadian
Championships on the line, the young women of the Athletics came out strong
against the Vaughan Vikings. LaSalle’s
bats put runs on the board in each of the first five innings, enroute to a 12-5
win to clinch their berth in the Easterns.
While the Athletics fell short of their ultimate goal,
dropping the gold medal game to the Waterloo Ghosts, who remain undefeated on
the season, both teams will advance to Easterns. The Athletics will look to avenge the defeat
with a possible rematch in PEI.
A special thank you is owed to the LaSalle Athletics and
Turtle Club communities for their amazing support throughout the PWSA Grands
weekend. An unbelievable number of
familiar faces were in the stands at Mic Mac Park to cheer the Athletics on,
giving the team a true home field advantage for the tournament. The kindness and support of the LaSalle fans
will never be forgotten.
With a big Prince Edward
Island trip on the horizon, the team would like to once again thank their
sponsors, whose generous support allows these young athletes to pursue their
goals: The Hideout Bar & Grill, Liberty Business Brokers of Ontario,
Realtor Pali Goraya, Robinson Transport, Unifor Locals 200, 444 and 2027,
Unifor Windsor Essex Country Skilled Trades Council and Waterbee Pools
& Hot Tubs.
