The 13U LaSalle Athletics (Gold 2010) scored a dramatic
extra inning walk-off win to capture gold at the John Cross Memorial Tournament
in Cambridge on Father’s Day weekend.
The A’s fought back from deficits three separate times during the
back-and-forth gold medal game, ultimately tying it in the seventh before the
exciting ending in extras.
The Athletics were strong at the plate and on the mound over
the weekend. The bats did heavy damage,
particularly in pool play where they hammered out 59 runs in just four
games. The pitchers were excellent throughout
the tournament, attacking opponents with quality strikes and surrendering only
15 runs across the seven games.
Overall, it was the resiliency of LaSalle’s young women that
stood out. They showed growth and
maturity as they battled back in all three playoff games on their path to
gold. The coaches and parents are so
proud of how the team handled all of the small successes and failures that take
place during a challenging weekend of softball.
As always, the team would like to thank the following
sponsors, whose generous support allows these young athletes to pursue their
goals: The Hideout Bar & Grill, Liberty Business Brokers of Ontario,
Realtor Pali Goraya, Robinson Transport, Unifor Locals 200, 444 and 2027,
Unifor Windsor Essex Country Skilled Trades Council and Waterbee
Pools & Hot Tubs.
