It was a golden weekend for the 13U LaSalle Athletics (Gold
2010) in Saugeen Shores, as the team earned gold medals and a top seed at the
PWSA Qualifiers in Port Elgin, Ontario.
The Athletics went undefeated over the five games, including back-to-back wins against a tough Stratford team to clinch the gold. The bats provided plenty of runs from everywhere in the lineup, while the pitchers were even more impressive, combining to allow just 9 runs and striking out more than half of the batters they faced.
Thanks to a strong start on Friday and Saturday, the young women also earned a favourable schedule that allowed for a Saturday night beach party, where they took in the sunset over Lake Huron. It was a great night and a reminder that Lasalle Athletics is more than developing the athletes’ skills on the diamond; it is also about creating friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
Sights are now set on the PWSA Grand Championships in Windsor August 11th through the 13th. The Athletics’ win in Saugeen Shores leaves them well positioned for Grands as #1 seed going into pool play.
As always, the team would like to thank the following sponsors, whose generous support allows these young athletes to pursue their goals: The Hideout Bar & Grill, Liberty Business Brokers of Ontario, Realtor Pali Goraya, Robinson Transport, Unifor Locals 200, 444 and 2027, Unifor Windsor Essex Country Skilled Trades Council and Waterbee Pools & Hot Tubs.
