This past weekend, the Rookie Major team took gold at the annual London Tecumseh tournament, winning all 5 games. After a rainout on Friday, the Titans won convincingly on Saturday over Sarnia and Burlington during the intense heat. Sunday started off slow as they were down by 5 early to Oakville; they would go on to win 15-6. After beating the Milton Mets in the semifinal 16-8, they were to face the Leamington Lakers in the championship game. Leamington had beaten the St. Thomas Cardinals 12-11 in their semifinal. The Titans had already suffered 3 losses to the Lakers this season, including a 8-7 loss in the final of the Leamington Laker Classic Tournament.
The Titans got off to a hot start, scoring 7 in the first. Leamington would inch their way to within 2 runs by the 6th inning. Unable to gain any insurance runs in the previous five innings, the Titans were able to muster 9 hits and 7 runs in the 7th, which was capped off by a 2-run double by the tournament MVP, Grady Richardson, sealing the victory.
Great job by Coaches Steve, Al, Mike, Dave and Greg to keep the guys focused.
