Turtle Club Baseball and Softball, originally known as Sandwich West Turtle Club and Turtle Club Little League, was founded in 1958 by Michael Mussolum. What began as a small community league with just a few house league teams has grown into one of the most historical and established youth baseball and softball organizations in the region.
As the Turtle Club Little League expanded, so did the number of teams, diamonds, and divisions, eventually introducing older age groups and softball. In 2011, Turtle Club Baseball and Softball officially moved beyond Little League, launching competitive travel teams under the LaSalle Titans and LaSalle Athletics programs. These teams now compete at the provincial level across a wide range of age divisions for both baseball and softball.
With growth came development. Turtle Club built a staple clubhouse at the heart of our home park, along with a full-service concession stand and two garages to support field maintenance and equipment storage. These additions have helped create a welcoming, community-focused space for players, families, and fans alike.
As our club and programs have continued to grow, so has our need for playing space. Today, in addition to our home diamonds at Turtle Club Park, we proudly make use of additional local fields—including the Villanova High School diamonds, the Vollmer Complex, and the River Canard diamonds—to accommodate the many teams and players who call Turtle Club home.
For over 60 years, Turtle Club has been a pillar of the LaSalle community. Our teams have earned hundreds of regional, provincial, and national championships, with accomplishments proudly displayed on the boards throughout our park. Turtle Club and Turtle Club Park have become the leading organization and facility for baseball and softball in the Essex County area.
Rooted in a tradition of family, fun, safety, and excellence, we continue to build on our legacy as our membership and community grow every year. In 2028, Turtle Club will celebrate its 70th anniversary—a true milestone and a proud reflection of decades of success on and off the field.
