Mosquito Minor "AA" OBA Champs!
Submitted By Ian Mayer on Tuesday, September 3, 2019
Congratulations to the Lasalle Titans Mosquito Minor T1 team for going undefeated on their run to become Provincial AA Champions.

The boys played hard and competed like champions the entire weekend.

Friday opened with an afternoon battle with Niagara Falls Falcons and a 11-0 victory let by lock down pitching, defence, and timely hitting.

Saturday was a marathon.  The team battled morning jitters to grind out a 10-8 victory vs. Mississauga North Tigers by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 7th to pull ahead.

Game 2 on Saturday was a match up vs. the Newmarket Hawks.  After falling behind early 6-0 the boys played inspired ball, and cut the lead in half in the 3rd.  Then opened the ball game up with a huge 9 run 5th inning to blow the game open and finish with a 15 hit 17-8 victory.

Game 3 on Saturday was no easy task.  Despite being 3-0 on the tournament the next match up was with the the Cambridge Cubs, who were also undefeated but had the benefit of a bye to the 4th round.  Our boys were tired and worn down by the earlier games and it showed as Cambridge pulled ahead and led 9-4 going into the bottom of the 5th. It was in that moment the resiliency and perseverance of this group of 11 boys rose to the challenge and battled back putting up 4 runs to make it a 1 run game.  Then lock down pitching and defence set the stage for another 4 run inning in the seventh to take the will from their opponents and secure at 12-10 victory.

On Sunday the boys looked confident and poised to compete.  This summer these ’09 Boys managed tournament Championships at the Tecumseh Summer Blast and the Vaughan Vikings Challenge, plus a Finalist finish in our own Green and Gold Classic in Lasalle.  They were prepared for Sunday baseball… and it showed.  The team opened the day with the Aurora Blue Jays who proved to be no match for the power swings of the Titans.  After a fast start and big 7 run 1st inning the Titans went on to collect 14 total hits and never give Aurora the lead. The Titans were victorious with a 14-10 final score.

The Championship game was a rematch with the Cambridge Cubs.  After 2 nights in hotels, 5 consecutive games, playing with leads, playing from behind and the emotions of making it to the finals these boys were laser focused on the big prize.  After losing the 5th coin flip of the tournament, as visitors the coaching staff was secretly happy to step up to the plate first as we flexed our hitting muscles.  After a 5 run first inning, pitching and defence took over to put the Cubs on ice and capped the tournament off with our best performance and a 8-1 Championship victory!!!

Coach Pete, Kevin, Dana, Lyndon and myself could not be prouder of these boys.  They never gave up, they should a compete level that was unmatched and won as a complete team… we said we would stick together and compete for each other and we did.  Everyone contributed!  Great hitting, shut down pitching and stifling defence were all tournament best.

Congratulation Boys… you earned it!  Great job on a wonderful year.  I’m thrilled and honoured to be part of the 2019 Mosquito Minor AA Championship team.

Go Titans Go.

Coach Bill
