2017 Titans - Rookie Minor - Golden @ Green & Gold Classic
Submitted By Joe Fortin on Tuesday, August 8, 2017
Congratulations to the Rookie Minor LaSalle Titans  for taking home gold, or rather keeping gold at home, by winning the Turtle Club Green & Gold Classic.

A large part of their successful, undefeated weekend was the Titans' tough defensive play. In 3 pool play games, they allowed a total of 8 runs. Wins against Ajax 14-2, Waterloo 8-3, and Vaughan 13-3, sent them into the semis as the #1 seed in their pool. In the crossover semi final game, the Titans outlasted the Milton Mets 6-5 in a tight, nerve-racking defensive battle. Both teams made numerous impressive plays in the field. The championship game was a rematch of two familiar foes from game 1 of the tournament. After coming out flat in their first meeting with the Titans, a rejuvenated Ajax Spartans team plowed over the rest of the field to earn a spot in the finals. The fired up Titans, intent on defending home turf, came out hot at the plate by jumping to a big lead. Ajax, however, was able to put the pressure on and push the game to 7 innings with a few big rallies. On multiple occasions, the Spartans loaded the bases, but the Titans were able to hold off their comeback by making timely and exciting outs to capture their first tournament win.

The coaching staff are very proud of the boys' efforts and well deserved victory this weekend. Even though individual game MVP honors went to well deserving players, this championship was a complete team effort. And after finally having a taste of victory, and experiencing the focus and effort it takes to win a tournament, all eyes are ahead on preparing and working  towards the OBA Championship in Brantford next month. Congrats boys!
Back to work tomorrow...
