This
past weekend the U11 LaSalle Athletics Gold (Gee) competed in the Hit 4
Homeruns Fastpitch Tournament in Monroe, Michigan.
After a slow start on Saturday, they finished third in pool
play. The team dug deep and dominated the quarterfinal game, beating their
opponents 10-1 and advancing to the semi-final game. After an edge-of-your-seat-game and a battle
of pitchers, the A’s upset the first-place team 2-1, advancing them to the
Championship game against Welles Park from Chicago. Although the A’s scored
first, their opponents were quick to turn the tables and pull ahead. It was the
final inning, bases loaded, two out, full-count - the A’s smashed a clutch
three run double allowing them to pull ahead 5-4. Strong pitching and catching helped secure
the win as the A’s struck out three of the next four batters.
The coaches are extremely proud of these girls! They learned
and adapted quickly to US rules. They battled hard and gave everything they
had. When called upon to dig deeper they refused to quit – they found their
strength and tenacity and played like champions!
Congratulations A’s!
