The LaSalle Titans 9U team travelled to Oshawa this past weekend to compete in the Jim Lutton Rookie Classic AAA Tournament. The Titans were the only AA team in their pool of four, but proved to be the deepest in the field, leading to an undefeated record with victories against Hamilton, Burlington and Peterborough.
In a close contest against a tough team from East York, the Titans were able to pull out a late 8-5 victory, earning a spot in the semi-finals. In the semi-finals the Titans played against the host Oshawa Legionnaires at Durham College. The boys let their play do the talking, getting contributions from the entire line-up to earn a 9-5 victory and securing a spot in the finals against the Guelph Royals. Another complete team effort, including timely hitting and stellar defence, lead the Titans to an 8-5 victory and the Tournament Championship. In addition to winning the Championship, the Titans also showed very well in the Tournament skills competition. Teams from the Titans took first place in the base running relay and second place in the “around the horn” throwing competition. The 9U LaSalle Titans would like to thank the Oshawa Legionnaires for hosting a great tournament, the family members and fans who cheered us on all weekend, and the Titans organization for their support.
