2011 LaSalle Athletics (U11) Storm Back From 9 Run Deficit to Win Gold in First Tournament of Season
In an early season tournament in Brampton, their first of
the season, the 2011 LaSalle Athletics (11U) finished 3-1 in round robin play,
good for second place in semi-final seeding. After winning their semi-final
game, the team faced a tough matchup against the Barrie Storm, the only team to
beat them during the round robin.
The girls got off to a bit of a slow start in the final game, allowing 9 runs on 6 hits through the first 2 innings. The team, however, was determined to make a good final showing in this game and powered back, allowing no runs over the next 2 innings and cutting Barrie’s lead to 2. In the final frame LaSalle allowed 2 more runs, but their bats roared to life with 7 of their 8 at bats resulting in 7 hits (4 singles, 2 doubles and 1 triple) and scoring 5 runs to seal the come from behind victory 12-11.
Through 6 games of the tournament the team scored 66 runs on 59 hits, while allowing only 29 runs on 31 hits. From a pitching perspective, their pitchers struck out 54 of 127 batters faced.
The team would like to thank their sponsor Susan Cote of Will Insurance Brokers Ltd, their coaches and their parents for all their support.
Congratulations to this hard working group of young ladies for giving it their all, staying focused and pushing off their slow start in the final game to come out victorious and capture the gold!
A’s on 3! 1, 2, 3… A’s!!!
