This past weekend (July 8-10), the Titans 14U Green team participated in
the Stratford 14U Keith Aitcheson ‘A’ tournament. The team put in an incredible
performance, ending as runners-up, finishing 2nd out of the 9 teams
that played.
The tournament began on Friday afternoon with a matchup with the Barrie Baycats. After a couple of scoreless innings, the bats started flying with 4 runs in the 3rd and 8 in the 5th, en route to a 13-2 victory. Aidan led the way going 3-3 with 2 RBI’s and putting in a strong pitching performance. Carter S. and Alex also had multi-hit games. Elliot and Tyler C. came out of the bullpen to seal the victory.
Immediately after that game, the boys faced a fresh Kingston Thunder team. This game was a bit tighter, but the Titans still pulled off an 8-6 victory. Lucas M. and James pitched well, and Aidan again led the way with 2 hits.
The Titans ended up finishing at the top of their pool, which meant a bye to Sunday’s semi-finals, and a rare Saturday day off. The boys enjoyed some time hanging out, watching baseball and spending some time at the St. Mary’s Quarry and Super Splash Waterpark. A pizza party ended the day.
Sunday, it was back to business—a 9 a.m. game against the Uxbridge Grizzlies. Aidan had another excellent pitching performance and the boys ran out to an 8-2 lead. Uxbridge found their bats in the 6th and final inning and made a comeback to tie the game at 8. But in the bottom of the inning, Tyler C. hit a single, Alex walked, then Aidan came up clutch again with a walkoff single, and the boys were off to the final! Aidan, Ty P. and Elliot had multi-hit games, and the pitching was closed out by Elliot, James and Tyler C.
The Titans travelled to the National Stadium to play against the host Stratford at 1:15 p.m. Unfortunately, Stratford was a bit too strong in pitching and hitting on this day as the Titans lost 12-2. Lucas C. had two hits; Tyler C. and Carter S. shared the pitching duties.
Of course, all the players found a way to contribute. Marcus caught almost the entire weekend in the heat and sun, Sawyer battled hard through injury and Carter W. put in a great performance at first base.
It was so nice to get back to an away tournament again, and everyone had a blast. It was fun watching the boys work well as a team, and witnessing the enthusiasm and support of the parents (and extended families) as they cheered on the team no matter what the score!
