The Rookie Selects came together as
team this weekend to capture the gold at the season ending District
Rookie Select Tournament in Kingsville.
The Round Robin games started with an epic battle versus their arch rivals from Forest Glade. Both teams played phenomenal defense, and the game ended with a 3-3 tie.
TC then had a bit of a let down in their second game and lost a tough game vs Leamington
But in a “win or go home” game vs. Essex in the last round robin game – the boys then bounced back and won big. That win qualified them for the elimination round as the #6 seed with a 1-1-1 record.
On Sunday in the quarterfinal game TC brought the bats out early, and survived a comeback attempt from the #3 seed Amherstburg to hold on for an 11-9 victory.
In the semi finals the boys from TC kept their hot bats going, jumped out to a big lead, and pulled off a great 16-10 victory over the #2 seed Tecumseh that was highlighted with some great defensive plays in the outfield.
That win brought the boys to Gold Medal game vs the #1 seed Riverside Royals. TC came out swinging, and jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the 1st inning. Riverside fought back over the next few innings to take an 8-6 lead. The boys from TC didn't quit, kept battling, scoring 5 in the 5th inning, 1 in the 6th, and 2 in the 7th. Riverside put up 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to cut into the lead but it wasn't enough as the TC Rookie Selects took the Gold by winning 14-10.
The win this weekend was this team's 2nd Gold Medal of the season. In fact this team took home medals in each and every tournament they entered this year – 2 Golds, 1 Silver, and 1 Bronze.
The coaching staff is so proud of what this team has accomplished this season.
