Bronzed Bantams
The Athletics Bantams came home with their first piece of hardware on the season winning bronze medals at the 28th Annual Niagara Falls Teddy Bear Tournament.

The team had a tough schedule spending a total of 14 hours at the park under a hot sun all day Saturday during pool play. None of that matter though because they completely dominated their competition outscoring opponents 35 - 2 in four games.

During the early morning game, it took a little bit to wake up the bats, but the girls managed to beat Mississauga Hurricanes by a score of 4-0. By the second game the Athletics were wide awake and mercied Port Perry 99s 12-0. Ancaster was the first team to cross the plate in the third game but Athletics still pulled off another win 5-2. In their final game of the day the Athletic bats were on fire scoring 14 runs and allowing none against Palmerston.

With a first place finish in pool play the Bantam girls played the second place Port Perry 98s from the other pool. Port Perry came out to a huge start and hit hard to a 7-0 first inning lead. With a never say die attitude, the Athletics battled back to take a 9 -7 lead going into the fifth inning. With a time limit looming Port Perry managed to add another 3 runs to take back a one run lead going into the bottom of what would be the final inning. Unfortunately the girls just couldn't pull out another run and fell 10-9 in the semi-final match.

Strong batting and pitching were on display in the bronze medal game when the girls convincingly took the bronze medals with a mercy win in five innings 12-2.

Next up for the Athletic Bantams is our qualifying tournament in two weeks held in Barrie, ON.
