The Lasalle Titans U12 Green team competed in the Dorchester Minor Baseball Association SummerSlam Tournament over the June 24-26th weekend. This was the Titans first away tournament in almost three years and the boys brought their “A” game.
The tournament started out with the Titans playing a very good DKMB River Cats team. This was a back and forth game with the Titans coming out on top 6 to 5. The next day the Titans were matched up against the Grimsby Coyotes. This was a fantastic game with great pitching and timely hitting. The game was extremely well played and after seven hard fought innings ended in an 8 to 8 tie. As a result, this left the Titans with the number three seed and had them slated to play the Tecumseh Rangers in the Quarterfinal on Saturday night.
The game did not start out as the Titans expected as they fell into an early 8 to 0 hole. But the boys never stopped believing in themselves and dug in. They managed to cut the lead to 9 to 4 going into the bottom of the last inning. It is here where the magic happened. With two outs and no one on base the Titans started their “Two Out Rally Chants!” Player after player came up to the plate and got a hit putting more and more pressure on the Rangers. With every hit came more belief from the Titans and the rallying calls got louder and louder! When it was all over the Titans pulled off the miracle come back and scored 6 runs with two outs to win the game 10-9!!! It was a very emotional night and one we will all remember forever!
With that win the Titans earned a spot in the semi final against the number 1 rated Uxbridge Grizzlies who were undefeated. The Titans were determined to continue their winning ways and find a way to get to the finals. Down 6 to 4 the Titans rallied again and scored 5 runs with timely hits, great base running and most of all the BELIEF that they can do it! The game finished as 9-7 Titans victory. In the finals, the Titans were set with a rematch against the Grimsby Coyotes. The game was played very well defensively through 4 innings with the score 3 to 1 in favour of Grimsby. In the sixth inning the game opened up for Grimsby with a big 5 run inning make the score 9 to 2 heading into the bottom of the sixth and the Titans coming up to bat. It would have been easy to say this was not our game and pack it in but that is not in these boys DNA. They rallied together and again put together hit after hit scoring 6 runs to make the score 9 to 8. Grimsby tacked one more on in the seventh with the Titans having one last opportunity. Unfortunately, the Titans were not able to find any holes in the seventh and the game ended 10 to 8 in favour of a very deserving Grimsby team.
The boys had an absolutely amazing tournament and made memories we will carry with us for a lifetime. Every team member contributed along the way. The coaching staff is so proud of you guys and look forward to continuing this momentum for the rest of the season. Way to go Titans!
