LETTER FROM AN UMPIRE:
So it's a new season and a new year/century/millennium. Well, before, your head fills with too many thoughts on this summer's games, go get a cold drink, sit down and relax. I need to get some things off my chest so we're going to be here for a while. You see, I've really grown tired of some of the "old chestnuts" of wisdom about the game that I keep hearing coming from players, parents and coaches and this is my attempt to set the record straight. I'll apologize now for my tone. Please don't take it personally.
